Quick Tip: Using Up Bananas

My 2 year-old has a condition best described by this internet meme:

So, when he awakens, he wants his beloved oatmeal NOW, and can not be reasoned with.

This is where a freezer and ripe or over-ripe bananas come in.

You know those older bananas you are about to throw away? They can be frozen to make smoothies (reducing the amount of ice needed), delicious banana bread or pancakes once thawed, or to calm a "hangry" toddler (or adult, if you have this affliction—which my husband can assure you I do).

I simply cut the banana in half and keep them in a large yogurt container.

Each morning, I add a frozen half to a bowl of hot oatmeal. I stir it around and it melts into the oatmeal, cooling it.

And there you have it: cool oatmeal, nutritional banana-goodness added, a use for those older bananas, and a happy toddler!
